DESTINATIONS, INDIAN SUBCONTINENT

Bhutan.

Preserved by intention. Extraordinary by nature.

Scroll

Bhutan is among the most carefully protected destinations on earth, by design. The kingdom's high-value, low-impact approach to tourism has preserved something genuinely rare: a country that feels entirely itself. Ancient monasteries still hold living devotion. Villages still produce hand-woven textiles by centuries-old methods. Forests cover nearly three-quarters of the land, and the mountain landscapes remain among the most pristine in Asia.

A Bhutan journey rewards a particular kind of traveller, one who values depth over distance and atmosphere over itinerary. The dzongs, the high mountain passes, the festivals that have continued uninterrupted for centuries, these are experiences that reveal themselves slowly, and stay with you long after you have left.

Best time to visit

When to go

Paro, Thimphu & Punakha

FEBRUARY – MAY
SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

The heart of Bhutan and the starting point for most journeys. Spring brings cherry blossoms, jacaranda in full colour around Punakha Dzong, and the celebrated Paro Tsechu. Autumn offers crisp mountain air, clear skies, and the grand Thimphu Tsechu festival.

Bumthang & Central Bhutan

MARCH – MAY
SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

The spiritual heartland of the kingdom. Remote, contemplative, and at its most beautiful in spring and autumn. Best suited to travellers seeking genuine immersion.

Haa Valley

JUNE – SEPTEMBER

One of Bhutan's least visited and most beautiful valleys, accessible primarily in the warmer months, when meadows are in full bloom and the landscape is exceptionally vivid.

Eastern Bhutan

OCTOBER – NOVEMBER

The most remote and authentic part of the kingdom. Rarely visited, deeply traditional, and best experienced in the clarity of autumn.

Festival Season

VARIES

Bhutan's Tsechu festivals follow the lunar calendar and move across regions through the year. Witnessing one, masked dances, ancient rituals, and a community gathered in celebration, is among the most memorable experiences the kingdom offers.
